How long should I burn my candle for when I burn it for the first time?

200ml candle for 1 hour, 400ml for 2 hours, 65ml for 3 hours.

What do I do the first time I want to burn my candle? Can I leave the crystal inside when I light it?

You can burn your candle for the first time with your crystal in your candle. We recommend that once you have lit your candle and once your wax has liquified to please remove your crystal from the vessel and resub-merge your crystal back into your candle once distinguished. We advise all customers you must be within eyesight of your candle while you burn it.

Can the dried flowers and crystal burn if they go into the wick?

Just like anything that contains an open flame and fire, yes - your candle wick could have potential to cover a crystal in soot or set a light to dried flowers if they make contact. This is why we place high importance on customers being within eyesight of their candle while they burn it to remove their crystal from moving into the wick and causing a hazards or potentially ruining the wick of their candle. Your dried flowers will naturally sink into the wax and should not set a light.

Why is there black smoke coming from my candle/ sooting?

We recommend to not burn your candle near any drafts like windows, outside or in a breeze as this causes uneven burning for your candle and may cause the wick to flicker. Soot often is caused by a long or crooked wick as untrimmed wicks cause uneven burning, dripping or flaring. When a candle burns, the wax near the flame melts and the liquid wax is pulled up the wick to feed the flame. If the wick is too long, the balance of heat and fuel will be off. Trim wick 1/4 inch before each light to prolong the life of your candle and ensure your burning your candle safely. You can use a wick trimmer, nail clippers, or scissors.

Why did my candle tunnel instead burning evenly?

There are many different factors as to why a candle may tunnel. Candles have memories therefore it is important that the entire top surface of wax is melted as tunneling usually happens when you don't allow a new candle to burn long enough the first time you use it. Tunneling could occur if the candle has been exposed to a draft, placed on a window or next to another candle that is burning as the draft will cause uneven burning. Tunneling could occur if the candle wick has been trimmed too short or has not been trimmed at all (candle wick has broken off due to sooting) Tunnelling usually happens because the wick isn't the right size to generate enough heat when lit to melt the candle's entire surface.

When should I discontinue using a candle?

Discontinue burning a candle when 1cm of candle wax remains in the container. Failure to do this could result in fire, injury or the candle jar cracking due to the open flame having not enough candle wax to burn. (If there is not enough candle wax it will heat the candle jar and cause it to fracture.) When the majority of the wax has been consumed, the flame will heat the container making the bottom of the jar hot. To prevent possible heat damage to your container and surface, stop burning after only 1cm of your candle is left.

Do candles expire?

In some rare cases, your candle can go bad, especially if it's made with plant-based waxes (such as soy wax). This is because plant-based products can degrade over time. For the best results, burn these candles within 6-12 months of purchase or feel free to leave your candle unburned up to 24-36 months.
