Growing up, I was blessed to live with my Tongan \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003egrandparents, which meant I was immersed in our language and culture from a young age. Learning Tongan was a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003enatural part of daily life for me. However, as someone who is half-Tongan, I understand that not everyone has the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003esame opportunity or exposure to learn the language. Many of our people left Tonga in search of greater opportunities \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003efor their families. My grandfather came to New Zealand knowing very little English. Through hard work, sacrifice, and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edetermination, he built a better life for those he loved. Stories like his remind me why preserving our language and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eculture is so important. Through the Maama Mālie Collection, I wanted to create a small but meaningful way to keep \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eour language visible and alive. There is something special about walking through a home and seeing an inspiring \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ephrase such as \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\"ʻOku ke mālohi\" – \"You are strong.\" \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNot only does it bring encouragement to those who read it, but it \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ealso helps introduce and preserve important Tongan words and phrases within our households and communities.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSometimes, all we need is a small touch of Tonga to feel connected to our roots.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","products":[],"url":"https:\/\/fayoracandles.com\/collections\/mama-malie-collection.oembed","provider":"Fayora","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
